On 19-20 May 2014, EUROCONTROL hosted a Digital NOTAM Workshop in its headquarters premises, organised in partnership with the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The first version of the Digital NOTAM Event Specification was published in June 2011, detailing the encoding/decoding rules for the most frequent NOTAM categories (closure of airport/runway/taxiway, activation of airspace restrictions, ad-hoc restricted areas, navaid unserviceable, etc.). This initial version was used for trials and test implementations by industry.

The specification was developed in cooperation with the US FAA, which has already deployed a Digital NOTAM system at around 300 US airports. Within the SESAR projects, Digital NOTAM supports the development of advanced pilot briefing capabilities, enabling extensive graphical presentation, better filtering and information prioritisation.

The presentations made by the participants during the two days of the workshop are available on the EUROCONTROL website.
